Artificial intelligence is the intelligence of machines or software, as opposed to the intelligence of humans or animals. It  is the science of making machines that can think like humans. It can do things that are considered "smart." AI technology can process large amounts of data in ways, unlike humans. The goal for AI is to be able to do things such as recognize patterns, make decisions, and judge like humans. In a simple way to understand, these are advanced robotic functionalities.

Specific applications of AI include expert systems, natural language processing, speech recognition and machine vision. Chess-playing computers, self-driving cars, Apple's Siri, Google Now, Amazon's Alexa and Microsoft's Cortana are examples of AI. One of the most common uses of AI in customer service is chatbots. Chatbots are conversational tools that perform routine tasks efficiently.
